Junior Lawyers Division

Launched in January 2008 for junior lawyers across England and Wales, the JLD is a division of the Law Society with an independent voice. It is a free membership group and is aimed at student members of the Law Society enrolled through the SRA, trainees, and solicitors with up to five years' active PQE.

Registration is free for those eligible to join. The membership registration site is not yet available. However, in the meantime, the JLD are inviting junior lawyers, and anyone else who is eligible, to register for regular updates at http://juniorlawyers.lawsociety.org.uk/front

The JLD provide their members with support, advice, information and networking opportunities, as well as representing their views through lobbying and campaigns.

The JLD will ensure that your views are heard on important issues pre- and post-qualification – both at home and internationally. Membership benefits will include:

an exclusive web area to support members through the early stages of their careers
a freephone telephone helpline service and access to advice via a range of specialist personal support services
careers advice and planning services
social and networking events held nationally and locally
competitively priced and accredited continuing professional development training
the opportunity to influence the future of the profession by helping to run the Division.

The JLD is overseen by an executive committee of volunteer members. It is chaired by Judith Perkins, and comprises former TSG and YSG committee members and three Law Society Council Members. The JLD committee has close links with the numerous regional groups representing students, trainees and young lawyer groups.
