Kingston University is pleased to announce the first in a series of CPD workshops to be rolled out in 2010. It is 'Spoken Word for Solicitors: Winning Communication, Winning Trust'.

Course outline
Spoken word skills are essential to solicitors. Face-to-face conversations, negotiations, pitches and presentations are the places where decisions are taken and work is finally done. This one day CPD workshop develops a robust communication style that is authentic, responsive, authoritative, and improves personal impact. The outcome is greater client trust and so improved commercial success.
Outline and Delivery
The workshop consists of a series of exercises and short interventions that will look at issues of status and deference, assertiveness and authority. We will address physical presence, vocal impact and clarity, listening skills, body language and speech. There will be opportunities for discussion and for specific individual feedback and coaching. The final session will look at specific challenges that individuals may be facing in their work.
The workshops will be appropriate for all levels but will be of most value to those with experience of face-to-face contact with clients. The day is in two sessions:

About the Speakers:
Piers Ibbotson
Piers is a respected speaker, coach and facilitator. He has worked at partner level with leading management consultancies and has contributed to senior development programmes for Adidas, WPP group, and others. He is a contributor to courses at the London Business School, the University of Nyenrode, Netherlands, The Danish Pedagogical Institute, Copenhagen and The Banff Centre in Canada, where he is guest faculty member on The Art of Executive Leadership.
Yvonne Morley
Yvonne was Head of Voice at LAMDA (The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art). Before that, she worked in the voice department at the Royal National Theatre. Her work enables creative development and personal growth for people in law, business, politics, news and media including TV presenters and sports personalities. More confidential work takes her through the doors of the Houses of Parliament and two of the royal palaces.
