Course outline
Introduction:This course is for all employment lawyers and those with responsibility for human resources with law firms. It deals with the latest cases and new legislation, as well as practical points on procedure and tactics. The economic slowdown stimulated a wave of redundancies and satellite litigation. We will look at redundancy pitfalls for employers, and how the new TUPE is working. We will cover recent cases on discrimination, harassment and employment status, including agency workers; and conclude with the Equality Act and more future changes. A full set of notes will accompany the course.
This course will cover:
• Latest cases in disability, age and other discriminations
• TUPE and ‘service provision changes’
• Developments in harassment and stress
• Deciding employment status and the position of agency workers
• Unfair dismissal, the ACAS Code and remedy arguments
• Long-term illness: holiday pay?
• The Equality Act
