Course outline
This course is part of a rolling programme enabling criminal law solicitors to keep up to date with developments in the law. The material is revised and re-written every 6 months and covers all aspects of the criminal process from investigation to final review. It includes examination of all development in legal aid and costs, criminal investigations, criminal law, procedure, evidence and sentencing. This edition covers developments from October 2009. A review of all relevant caselaw will be included.The course will in particular consider:
• Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008 including in particular changes to sentencing of youths.
• Coroners and Justice Act 2009 (including video courts)
• Continuing changes to the Criminal Procedure Rules
• Sentencing guidelines including new overarching guidelines on youth crime
• LSC funding developments

About the speaker(s)
Anthony Edwards is the senior partner at TV Edwards LLP. Anthony is a duty Solicitor and a supervisor under the specialist fraud arrangements. He has substantial experience of acting in protected witness cases including the largest in recent years. He is a past President of the London Criminal Courts Solicitors Association, a Member of the Council of Justice and of the Editorial Board of the Criminal Law Review.
Anthony has been appointed to the Sentencing Guideline Council under the chairmanship of the Lord Chief Justice. He is the author of “Advising a Suspect in the Police Station” (Sweet and Maxwell) , “Sentencing Handbook - 2nd Edition” (Law Society) with Joanne Savage and (with Roger Ede) “Criminal Defence: a Guide to Good Practice” (Law Society). ”Fixed Fees in Criminal Court”. He writes and lectures widely on criminal law.
