Course outline
On 31 March 2009 amendments were made to the Solicitors’ Code of Conduct and to the Solicitors’ Accounts Rules marking the partial implementation of the Legal Services Act 2007. Further developments arising from the Act are expected in 2010 and 2011.This seminar covers the changes made in 2009 as well as anticipating the further changes in 2010 and 2011. The topics covered will include:
• Legal Disciplinary Practices – what has been the take up and are these for your practice?
• Entity regulation – how has this affected the disciplinary process?
• Office for Legal Complaints – is this any different from the Legal Complaints service?
• Controlled Trusts – how has their abolition affected your accounting systems?
• Authorisation for withdrawal of client money – is your practice compliant?
• Accountant’s Reports – what has changed and what are the common reasons for qualification?
• Alternate Business Structures – what is the timetable for implementation are how will ABSs impact on competition on the High Street?
• Recent cases on regulation and compliance.
