Today the Surrey Law Society is the sixth largest in England and Wales with a membership of over 1200 solicitors and is seen as the Surrey Lawyers’ voice.

We are always keen to welcome new faces to the committee. We work hard and play hard and those who get involved with the management of the Surrey Law Society find it both challenging and enjoyable as they become more actively involved in the practical, social and financial running of the Society. Although the time commitment is not arduous the role does require personal commitment to the growth and development of the organisation.

Surrey Law Society is a company limited by guarantee, administered via our Chief Executive and a Board of Management, commonly referred to as the Committee. There are also some active sub-committees - Financial, Social and Quo Vadis - and ad hoc sub-committees as needed. The Committee comprises the officers - President, Senior Vice-President , Junior Vice-President, Hon. Secretary, Hon. Treasurer - and a further 12 members, elected or co-opted. The Chief Executive is in attendance at meetings and takes the minutes.

The Committee meets approximately 8 times a year, alternating between Kingston (Surrey County Council offices) and Guildford (College of Law). Meetings are generally between 6.15 pm and 8.00pm. Sub-committees meet at need, usually 3-4 times a year at assorted venues.

Committee meetings keep the activities of the Society under review, make policy, approve the CPD programme, consider financial matters, take reports from Surrey's Council Members, supervise the Chief Executive, arrange social events, co-ordinate responses to consultations from SRA and the Law Society, oversee liaison with other local law societies and receive reports from SRA on disciplinary matters.
